Burnout Generation

Written by Lintang D. Putri

Brief

Burnout is going to be the new culture of the generation. There are so many things that push individuals to reach the point of burnout. This blog post will showcase burnout from a formal perspective, through experience, and then offer some tips to youth.

Burnout is a word that expresses our self that up level of exhaustion. According to an article written by Melinda Smith, M.A., Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., and Lawrence Robinson, burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and are unable to meet constant demands. These feelings are typically felt by individuals in new generations that start a new level of life as they have to struggle more to adapt to new environments, new faces, and experiences. Some people are also actively looking for a new environment to start a new chapter to their story, for new faces to communicate with, and for new adventurous experiences, however, it is not easy to deal with if you are anxious because there will surely be obstacles on the way. But trust me, it’ll be okay because humans are living creatures with the best adaptive qualities.

Burnout is caused when people have so many question marks or so many things to think about in their brain such as work, plans, or what happens next (the future). There are 3 types of burnout: Firstly, there is burnout that is caused by formal activity such as work. Secondly, there is burnout that is caused by social problems such as stereotypes or manners. Lastly, burnout can be caused by individuals such as dissatisfaction. All types of burnout will nonetheless affect people's mental health and mind.

There is a stereotype that exists where people expect themselves to fit perfectly with society’s standards or be the same as everyone else but as youth, we need different things in this world. It is great to be different. As a member of a newer generation, especially as someone who is in their second year of senior grades, there are so many responsibilities to handle that sometimes, I feel like there is too much that I have to do and too much to plan. Something pushed me to do more than others. It's okay to be better and want to do better but someone once said that too much is too bad, meaning that everything that you do too much of, an unhealthy amount will impact a person negatively. If you are struggling too much with so many things, know that you'll be burnt out if you continue to pressure yourself and this can result in all of your plans going wrong.

Tips to say goodbye to BURNOUT

  1. Build a great environment for yourself

  2. Time management

  3. A balanced life with ‘Me Time’

  4. Physical activity

  5. Communicate with others and share your story

To all people that read this paragraph, I’m very sure that you are an important, great, kind, and smart person. It’s absolutely okay to rest but don’t put your life completely on pause. Be the best version of yourself. I really believe that you will be amazing, more than you know!
