War and Humanity

Written by Dongyuan Yang

Recently, I heard about the war that happened in Afghanistan. The purpose of writing this poem is to remember the remains of human civilization destroyed by war and the sacrifices of innocent people.

War and Humanity

A cannonball pierced the tranquillity of the night

Taking away the sleeping innocent creatures,

People who wake up in fear have found

A sky has opened its hideous eyes,

Desire fills the fragile body.

People have become a chess of war,

The machine of war sprays a rain of hatred,

The billowing smoke mixed with a pungent smell,

There are countless innocent lives that are asleep forever,

The cruelty of war makes the sunset even more enchanting.

The world has become a purgatory,

Smokes of war disappear, and people regain their laughter,

Forgetful humans, leaving history to books,

Everything is calm again

But the flowers blooming next to the shell crater,

Who is she crying for?
